Response to the Chancellor’s Spending Review

Responding to the Chancellor’s spending review, Cllr Emily Smith, Leader of the Vale of White Horse District Council, said:

“The additional funding for local government should help towards some of the gaps associated with the pandemic – the enormous level of support we’ve provided to our communities and businesses has severely impacted our finances, as has the loss of income we’ve experienced.

“However, for local services to be maintained councils need a long-term funding settlement to make a noticeable improvement in the council’s finances. Until then, we will have to continue to make difficult decisions about how we manage our budgets and assets.   

“We now just have to wait on the government’s final calculations to find out how much will come our way to see how far they will go to help us with our continued Coronavirus response and long-term financial situation.”
