Young artists encouraged to display their work in Wantage

The Beacon in Wantage is reaching out to local schools and youth groups to display artwork on their Art Wall, showcasing local young talent and celebrating the community in the building.

Pupils at Grove Church of England School, Wantage, were the first to have their art displayed on The Beacon’s Art Wall earlier this year.

Each class drew a large version of a book that they were reading in class, resulting with seven large, impressive paintings ranging from a 3D Iron Giant to a mosaic Medusa.

Sam Milward a year 4 teacher at Grove Church of England School said: “We have all really enjoyed getting involved in creating artwork for display in The Beacon. Each class created a big piece of art around a book they have enjoyed over the year, children have loved bringing their parents in to see them in The Beacon and we are really grateful to the staff for inviting our school to start their wall of art.”

Next up on the free-to-view art wall exhibition is St John’s Church of England Academy, Grove, with their Harvest Festival artwork which will go on to the wall this month.

Cllr Debra Dewhurst, Cabinet Member for Leisure Centres and Community Buildings at Vale of White Horse District Council said: “We are so pleased to be displaying the artwork of local school children and we’ve been so impressed by the amazing creations the children have come up with to depict their favourite books. It’s a fantastic way to bring colour to the building and we’re really pleased to see that it brings the children lots of joy to have their art displayed for everyone to see. They should all be very proud of their work.”
