Homes in West Challow to receive improved service from new sewerage treatment plant

Residents at nine properties in West Challow are benefitting from a new £60,000 treatment plant which will improve how their sewerage is dealt with.

Vale of White Horse District Council has just completed work on the new plant which serves homes around Challow Station. 

Due to the ageing nature of the system, the previous plant needed emptying frequently and was causing significant maintenance costs.  The new plant features modern technology that will provide a better service, reducing the risk of blockages in the pipework and ensuring sewage is treated to Environment Agency standards.

Cllr Andrew Crawford, Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Assets, at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “It’s important that we ensure that council services provide value for money for our residents and don’t lead to unnecessary costs.  The old plant serving these nine properties was causing regular costly maintenance issues and so I’m pleased that we have been able to replace it with a modern system which will provide a much more efficient and effective treatment service.” 

Cllr Paul Barrow, ward councillor for Ridgeway, including West Challow parish, said: “I’m pleased that we have carried out this work.  The new sewerage treatment plant will provide peace of mind for residents that sewage from their properties will be properly treated and there’s a reduced risk of blockages in the system.”
